Continuing professional education

As a member of the Chartered IIA you are required maintain and improve your knowledge, skills and other competencies throughout your career. Our CPE policy provides a framework in which to do this.     

Our CPE policy 

  1. All practising voting members of the Chartered IIA are required to complete 40 points (40 hours) of CPE activity per year. Non-practising members (those in non-internal audit roles) are required to complete 20 hours of CPE activity per annum. Retired members are exempt.

  2. Members' CPE activity must be formally structured, with all activities:

           (a)  having clear aims and objectives
           (b)  enabling opportunity for reflection on activity undertaken
           (c)  having sign-off by line manager/similar

  1. Members are required to self-certify as to the completion of the required CPE. You do this when you renew your membership. In addition, CIA and QIAL holders must confirm their compliance to IIA Global annually.

  2. We recommend that you undertake a range of development activity. IIA Global imposes some limits on types of activity.

  3. All qualifying activity, both directed and self-directed, should be recorded. Evidence should be retained for three years. The Chartered IIA will continue to monitor CPE activity and we may ask to see your evidence.

  4. We will not charge you a fee for reporting CPE activity to the Chartered IIA. (CIA and QIAL holders must pay a small fee to IIA Global each year.)

  5. Failure to comply will result in automatic suspension of any designations held, and could result in expulsion from membership.

CPE reporting for CIA and QIAL holders: deadline is 31 December

Members who hold the CIA and/or the QIAL and who are due to report their CPE this year can now do so via IIA Global's CCMS system. The deadline for doing this is 31 December. To declare your compliance you will need to log in to the CCMS and select the relevant CPE form. A fee of $30 per certification will apply.

Retired members, who are exempt from CPE, still need to log in to the CCMS and complete a 'retired status' form for each certification. There is no fee for doing this.
